In 1994, an Indian immigrant opened a small eatery called Vij's Restaurant in Vancouver. Initially, Vikram, the proprietor of the restaurant, wanted a small place that can show off the masterly of Indian Cuisine without using the overly overused Tandoor Oven. However, as the time passed and the restaurant became popular, he increased its sitting capacity. In December of the same year he married his wife, Meeru, who became a major inspiration behind the food served here.

The Vij's is still a family restaurant. It is run by Vikram and his wife and they have done a good job with it. It makes you feel home-away from home. It has staff that is as respectful as the ones you will find in New Delhi restaurants.

Meera is indeed a charmer. You will definitely want to come back to the restaurant. Her Indian accented English makes you feel at home every time she welcomes you into her restaurant. Although the restaurant serves cuisines from other places on earth, they principally keep their recipes and spices Indian. It is the place to sample Indian culinary delights without going to India.

Irrespective of you budget, you will find something interesting to eat at Vij’s Restaurant. It has been rated a 4.5 star restaurant on the trip advisor and yet, with a budget of a 3.0 star restaurant, you can have almost all of their delicacies. A meal at Vij’s reminds you how a global cosmopolitan Vancouver is. Who can imagine that on the streets of Vancouver one could find the Indian spicy food? In fact, who would think that in a modern economy you can find an eatery that boasts family-style eating tables?

Whatever else you do in Vancouver, make sure you take at least one meal at the restaurant. You never know, it might form the highlight of your trip!
