You can have the time-of-your-life ushering in the New Year in Mumbai. Previously known as Bombay, this capital of Maharashtra state of India is home to 20.5 million people - the largest in India and fourth largest in the world. It also happens to be the best place to be on the eve of the New Year.
New Year is one of the funniest times of the year. You hear people making a lot of promises to themselves, their families and to God about how they will help more in family chores, how they will tithe more faithfully, how they will work out longer etc. The funny thing is that by Valentine’s Day on February 14th, all these promises will be gathering dust and cobwebs in the mental labyrinth that is human mind.
However, this needs not be the case. You can have the time-of-your-life ushering in the New Year in Mumbai. Previously known as Bombay, this capital of Maharashtra state of India is home to 20.5 million people - the largest in India and fourth largest in the world. It also happens to be the best place to be on the eve of the New Year.
1. Shopping
One of the things you can do in Mumbai (other than making resolutions that you will keep for only two days at most) is shopping. Mumbai is one of the few mega-cities in the world that $100 means a lot. You can buy the latest Indian fashion, eat the best meal and get to experience the Guajarati bargain for the best price at places such as Infiniti Mall, High Street Phoenix, Prime Mall, Globus Cinema, Oberai Shopping Mall and many more.
2. Host Themed Parties
If you are not a shopping buff, then you might be a party fan. You can organize a themed party. For example you can ask all the party attendants to dress like the Buddhist monks. The weirder and crazier the theme, the more interesting it will be. You will find out that most Mumbai residents are open to a good idea. The kids can be the waiters for the day.
3. Sightseeing
Alternatively, you can decide that you want to sightsee. Mumbai has one of the highest concentrations of scenic sights. Make sure you visit place that the kids will find interesting. Some of the places where families can sightsee in Mumbai include; Elephanta Caves, Haji Ali Dargah, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Wankhede stadium for a game of cricket and many more.
4. Enjoy a Bollywood Film
If you are into movies, then Bollywood is a good substitute for Hollywood. Actually, latest figures show that Bollywood has overtaken Hollywood as a movie making destination of choice. From 3D to Action to Horror to Family Dramas, Bollywood has it all.
There is so much you can do in Mumbai and since I have run out of space, the best advice I can give you is to book your flight and go see it for yourself. I may yet make a Mumbai convert of you!
